Welcome to 3rd Party Slabs

Welcome to our website

We at 3rd Party Slabs focus on preserving slabs throughout history. From these slabs we learn the different aspects of grading and holdering of coins. We also learn how different each company was and their evolution as grading has progressed.

Evolution & Gens

Oddities

Some of the larger grading companies have been in business for many years and along with changing times, their slabs took on different looks. Different generations (gens) are rarer than others.

Rarity

Unfortunately, a majority of people don't care about the older gen of slabs and crack them out for the quick buck when they get that upgrade. Unbeknownst to them, a lot of old holders carry a premium since most no longer exist.
With all the grading companies that existed, its not hard to find some holders that appear odd by today's standards. Some came with flimsy plastic while others were just a different shape.

Collectibility

Recently, slabs are becoming noticed as a collectible. Buying not the coin, but the slab that encapsulates it. With so many companies and gens, its very easy to find excitement in collecting them ALL!
Buy the slab, not the coin

Our Mission

Our mission is to protect, display, and educate about all the different types of slabs and holders for coins. We intend to make slab collecting a major avenue for regular coin collectors to get into. This is a very centralized part of numismatic history that everyone should know about. Next time you see a weird slab, keep it. You never know, it could be a rarity to the slab collecting community.
